Your noir match

Your way

Four ways to wear black

01

Head-to-toe noir

Head-to-toe black is the boldest statement you can make walking down the aisle. Satin and Mikado give it a rich, sculptural finish that photographs beautifully.

02

Black & ivory

Love tradition but crave contrast? Pair a black gown with an ivory veil, or choose a style that comes in both shades so you can compare them side by side in your suite.

03

Dark lace & corsetry

Lace motifs, boning and a basque waist give a black gown a romantic, gothic-fairytale feel without losing an ounce of elegance.

04

A touch of noir

Not ready for a full black gown? Start with black accents: a dramatic veil, a belt or statement jewelry styled during a complimentary accessory appointment.

Stylist notes

Wearing black in the Arizona sun

A few things our stylists share with every bride planning a black wedding dress in the desert.

I · Timing

Say “I do” at golden hour

Black fabric soaks up the sun, so an evening or sunset ceremony keeps you comfortable, and the warm desert light makes black satin glow in photos.

II · Fabric

Choose your texture

Satin reads glamorous, Mikado reads sculptural and lace adds softness. Try each in your suite to see how they move and feel in person.

III · Fit

Tailor it in-house

Dark colors show every line, so fit matters. Suzanne’s Sewing Service handles your bustle, hem and fitting right here, led by a seamstress with nearly 50 years of bridal experience.

Black wedding dress questions

Is it okay to wear a black wedding dress?

Absolutely. More brides are choosing black to reflect their personality, their venue or simply what makes them feel most beautiful. Your wedding, your rules.

Where can I try on black wedding dresses near Phoenix?

Ohana Bridal is in Gilbert at 645 N Gilbert Rd, Suite 174-176, about 30 minutes from downtown Phoenix and easy to reach from Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Tempe and Queen Creek. Appointments are complimentary and take place in a private suite.

Do you carry black wedding dresses in plus sizes?

Yes. We carry plus-size samples, and many of our designers offer gowns made to order in extended sizes. Tell us your size when you book and your stylist will pull the black styles that fit.

Can I order a gown in black if the sample is ivory?

Some designers offer select styles in black or black-and-ivory. Your stylist can tell you which gowns are available in black and show you swatches during your appointment.

How far in advance should I shop?

Designer gowns are made to order and then tailored, so we recommend starting about a year before your wedding. On a tighter timeline? Ask about our Wiki Wiki Experience for off-the-rack gowns you can take home the same day.

Do you offer alterations for black wedding dresses?

Yes. Our in-house team at Suzanne’s Sewing Service handles fittings, bustles and hems for every gown purchased at Ohana, so you never have to find a separate seamstress.
